Sacred Valley Journey Julio 1, 2009

Hola,
Today we began our adventure up into the Sacred Valley (Valle Sagrado).
We flew into Cusco, Peru this morning which sits at 10,800 ft.
Many people suffer from altitude sickness, so to try and prevent it we drank coca tea (herbal cocoa leaf tea) and took it easy for the day, just walking around the Main Square (Plaza de Armas).
It was such a nice day we stayed in the square for hours, and we were easy targets for the dozens of shoe-shiners, and vendors of postcards, paintings, handicrafts you name it!
The square was filled with these vendors, basking backpackers and locals enjoying the sunshine.
The day didn't end very well though.
The air sickness caught up with my mom and I and we had to spend one night in the air sickess clinic! Yeah, they have a clinic because it's so common.
After we recovered, we set out for the Sacred Valley.
